I finished this book last night on the train and it was such a pleasant read! It was recommended by my mother in law (who always recommends excellent books!) so I was eager crack the spine and I am so glad that I did.

Book title and author: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry Gabrielle Zevin
Overall Score: 7
A quick snippet about the book: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry is a tender novel for readers who like good character development and literary references. It follows the life of middle aged, A.J. Fikry- a bookshop owner on a small fictional island (Alice Island) off the coast of Massachusetts. We find him in a depressed state after losing his beloved wife and things seem quite dire. It is not until he has hit rock bottom that something unexpected shows up at his shop and begins to change everything.

Ideal for reading: On a beach, On your commute, Before bed
Highlight: There are some remarkable quotes about love, life, and how to get the most out of it. My favorite being, "We agree to be disappointed sometimes so that we can be exhilarated every now and again." This quote rung true to me about the experience of picking up a book and committing to it and also to living with life's ups and downs. It is very well written and goes by fast!
Low point: It was quite predictable, although some may say the best books are.
