As you get older the size of the box means less and less about the quality or enjoyment factor of the gift (aka jewelry). But there are also gifts that are simply so great that they cannot be contained in a box- the gift of an experience. Trying something new or exploring a passion is such an amazing gift to give someone you love. So go on, give a kid a chance to chop some broccoli. Here are some of my top pics:
Cooking Classes: I am obsessed with cooking classes. Not only are they fun but you often learn a lot about technique AND you get to eat a delicious meal and typically sip on some tasty wine. That's what I like to call a win, win, win. Miette Culinary Studio is based out of New York and one of my favorites. I have been to three classes with them and Chef Paul with his deft hand and sharp wit never disappoints. If you are not in New York- no problem! Most cities have great classes offered regularly, I cannot wait to try The Wooden Spoon in Chicago!
Reiki Session: As some of you might know, I am a reiki enthusiast. See this post for an account of my reiki experience :) If you are looking for an interesting, out of the box gift for someone on your list I cannot recommend a reiki session more. It only takes one session with the right reikiest to make a convert and sometimes a gifted appointment is what it takes to get someone through the door!
Wine Club Membership: After the holidays everyone's wine stash is a bit depleted. Give the spirited gift of wine to the grape lover in your life. To see Forbes List of best wine clubs for every enthusiast on your list go here! OR contact their favorite winery and enroll them in their club. Tip: for new wine drinkers Lot 18 is an excellent option as they send you a small sample kit to gauge your taste in wines so they can send you wines curated for you!
Beer Of the Month Club: Similar to wine, beer is a great gift. With new craft breweries opening up all over the place this is a great gift for someone who loves to try new brews.
Spa Treatment: Got a spa lover in your life? (I know Geoff does...) A good facial or a massage is just the thing to rejuvenate a tired soul after the holidays. See goop's list of the most luxurious spa treatments in the world for ideas AND ways you can recreate the experience at home (gift basket inspo anyone??)
